Hi, I’m Sarah! I’m a journalist by day and a baker by night, juggling two passions that I hold close to my heart. I'm married to my best friend, Joe, and together, we’re raising two wonderful boys who keep us on our toes. Life hasn’t always been easy, but it’s these moments of love, loss and connection that have shaped who I am today.

 

The bakery’s name is a tribute to our precious son, Oliver Lucas, who we lost unexpectedly in 2022 when I was 35 weeks pregnant. He had the brightest, most beautiful blue eyes, and not a day goes by that we don’t think of him. The Blue Eyed Bakery is my way of keeping his memory alive and sharing a piece of his light with the world.

 

Baking became my refuge in those dark days — a way to find comfort and healing when words just weren’t enough. What started as a small passion project, where I shared loaves with family and friends, has now blossomed into something much bigger.

 

For me, baking isn’t just about making something delicious (though I hope you find it to be). It’s about connection. It’s about the memories we create around the table, the moments shared over a warm slice of bread and the joy that comes from knowing something homemade has brought happiness to someone’s day.

Hi, I’m the other Sarah! My husband, Matt, and I relocated our family from Minnesota to Texas in 2022. Though we knew it would be a huge change for our family, it has gone far beyond trading in our snow boots and parkas.

 

Unbeknownst to us, we had moved next door to a family who was enduring a season of grief after losing their sweet little boy with bright blue eyes. A family who still took the time to welcome us to the neighborhood with a lasagna. And with that lasagna sparked the friendship that has helped Texas feel like home.

 

Over the past couple of years, Sarah and I have traded laughter and tears, along with many loaves of bread and sweet treats. Together we learned about the world of sourdough. When Sarah decided to launch The Blue Eyed Bakery and invited me to join her, there wasn’t any doubt in my mind that this would grow into something incredible.

 

Seeing the delight on my family's faces with each bite of my food ignited my love for baking and fueled my desire to share my creations with others. Away from the oven, I'm a homeschooling mama of four, always on the go. Whether it's a family outing or a camping trip, there’s plenty of fun (and chaos) to go around!
